Up until "THE ONE" arrived on the scene, Colin Powell was a self proclaimed Republican, and it's not hard to see why. He was moved up through the ranks of the Army on his own merits AND the recommendations of many Conservative Republican superiors. He was made a National Security Advisor by the most Conservative Republican President since Theodore Roosevelt. He was appointed the first black Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff with the full blessing of another Conservative Republican President and finally appointed as the first black Secretary of State by yet another Conservative Republican President. In spite of the love, respect, and historic success he has recieved from the Republican party he now chooses to betray them by supporting socialist Barack Obama for President. But it's okay, because he says, "It's not about race." Right. Mr Powell's willingness to turn his back on the party that made him and the men who served with and under him is sickening. There is a lesson in all this for Conservatives but I doubt they'll learn it. This type of overnight 180 degree philosophical turn around is beyond my ability to comprehend. It must be a black thang.

Of course it's not a black thang. That's why he supported Al Gore and John Kerry in the last two elections. Oh wait, not. I've never understood why conservatives think Powell is all that. He's pro-abortion, for gun control, and he believes in affirmative action (because he benefited from it?). I happen to be ambivalent on abortion, so I'll selfishly give him that one, but on how many issues can you disagree with your party and still be considered a member? And another thing, was his military career so distinguished that he would have had the opportunity to serve the last 4 Presidents, 3 of whom were Republicans, if he were white? I honestly don't know the answer, but as far as I'm concerned he's less Republican than opportunist.
