Now I'm Hysterical

Vicar, you bastard, you stole my bit! I was gonna do a post per week on some form of leftist hysteria, but you knocked most of them out in one fell swoop. Now I have to come up with a new idea. No problem, my genius will prevail.

A few others I was considering:

1. Population Explosion

2. Disease caused by Alar, breast implants, secondhand smoke, electromagnetic energy from power lines, etc, etc.

3. Heterosexual Aids-we forget how big a deal this was back in the day. Some crazies were predicting that tens of millions of heterosexual Americans would be dead of the Aid by now. I think the real number is somewhere around two.

Question -

What are the equivalent scaremongering positions of the Right?

Some would answer the fear generated by the threat of a Soviet nuclear attack during the cold war is an example of Right hysteria. Maybe. I don't know if the concept of impending apocalypse was entirely created by the Right or not, but at least the Soviet Union actually possessed real nuclear weapons and had the ability to deploy them (see Cuban Missile Crisis).

Others say the many incarnations of the "Red Scare" show just how knee-jerk crazy those on the Right can be. I guess I can see it. But again, the record not only shows a history of active communists and communist sympathizers in America, it has been proven that in the past the highest levels of government were virtually infested with them.

Anyway, I want somebody to point out to me where the Right has contributed to mass hysteria/ignorance on par with the Left because I can't see it.

What I see on the right as far as fear mongering are the Christian churches and moralists who claim the world is about to end, it is getting worse, society is about to fail, gays cause hurricanes and earthquakes, I think, and I know I won't be agreed with on this, that the sex offender thing is a mass overreaction. If we are gonna do that we should have an OFFENDER data base, I would like to know if ANY felons are near me. I thought about this before I wrote my thoughts, the left doesnt monopolize the scare market they are just the majority share holder, AND I think we get more unneeded legislation from the lefty. We definitely get our freedom of speech squashed more by the left than the right, I know that sounds radical since so many Xians are quick to get offended but the lefty chicken littles of the world will harbor NO dissent or arguement. There will be no discussion period.
hell I could write another giant post about this so I guess I'll save it. Oh to add one, driving while on the cell phone.

Quick response. I would like to gently suggest that you could combine Christian scare mongering, right-wing fears of societal collapse, and anti-gay bias, and still not match the the negative impact of any one of the top ten crisis notions of the Left. I can't back this up, just an informed, thoughtful opinion.

A violent felon data base is probably a good idea, although I have to admit I think child predators are special breed of bad. But I like kids.

I sense we may have a few areas of disagreement here. Hopefully we can parlay it into some mature dialogue. Or immature dialogue, it doesn't matter.

Wait I got it Obesity! The government
will/is deciding that we are too fat and our children are too fat so they will/are legislate/ing against it. Schools can't serve junk food, fast food has to be healthier blah blah blah , thank you big government I can't make wise choices so you can do it for me, I love you sooo much!

How about all the good Christian folks who are attempting to have "Intelligent Design" taught in schools? I don't know how prevalent it is, but it's definitely from the Right.

Bernard Goldberg, former CBS reporter, has a new book out. I haven't read it but the title is apt: Crazies to the Left of me, Wimps to the Right.
